- Business Information Service for the Newly Independent States (BISNIS) US Department of Commerce Announcement of Opening for a Contractor: Regional Commercial Information Provider?Nizhny Novgorod, Russia BISNIS is the U.S. Government's primary information resource center for U.S. companies exploring business opportunities in Russia and other NIS countries. A primary goal of BISNIS is to bring buyers and sellers together to facilitate successful business transactions. BISNIS has resulted in more than $2.8 billion worth of U.S. export and investment transactions in the NIS since opening in 1992. BISNIS products and services include the monthly BISNIS Bulletin newsletter, the Search for Partners and Trades & Tenders lead programs, and a range of information on Russian and NIS regions, industry developments, and market access strategies. BISNIS distributes market information to interested representatives of U.S. companies, including 30,000 recipients of mail, several thousand recipients of BISNIS emails, and via the BISNIS Internet web site (www.bisnis.doc.gov). BISNIS operates through a network of 19 representatives in the NIS and 10 trade specialists in the United States (Washington, D.C.) who identify, analyze, and report on market leads, developments, and strategies in order to keep U.S. companies informed about commercial developments in the NIS. Russia-based representatives are the primary contact with local companies and organizations. BISNIS has been reporting from Nizhny Novgorod and intends to continue reporting on commercial developments and opportunities in this and surrounding Volga-Vyatka regions from October 2001 through September 2002. The contractor will be responsible for providing BISNIS each month with US export and partner leads, useful market updates, and practical industry and regional reporting for Samara oblast and surrounding regions. The contractor is also expected to work with the local business community and media to increase local familiarity with BISNIS programs. Qualifications: Strong English writing and speaking skills, familiarity with international business, ability to identify promising leads and prepare useful market reporting for US companies. Additionally, the position requires that a candidate show initiative, be able to work independently, communicate effectively with colleagues and contacts, and be results oriented The winning candidate will be required to work at an office with full email access.
