- RADAR/EW CONFERENCE: The Association of Old Crows will sponsor the fifth Radar/EW Conference on October 25-26, 2000 at the Johns Hopkins University, Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Maryland. The conference will be classified SECRET, U.S. ONLY. The theme of the conference will be: "Roles of Radar and EW in support of the 2lst Century Warfighter, Evolution or Revolution?" The chairman of the conference will be Dr. Edward K. Reedy, Vice President and Director, Georgia Tech Research Institute. The keynote speaker will be Mr. John J. Welch, Jr., former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition). Session I will address Requirements and Applications and will be chaired by RADM Kathleen Paige, USN, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, (RDA), Chief Engineer. Topics include: Airborne Electronic Attack Analysis of Alternatives (Mr. Antonio Marra, Study Director); Emerging RF SAM Systems (Mr. Randy Jones, Missile and Space Intelligence Center); and Army, Navy and Air Force requirements. Session II will address Technology and will be chaired by James Carlini, DARPA, Special Projects Office. Topics include: Advances in MEMs for RF Technology (Mr. Vince Sieracki, NAWC); Low-Cost Electronic Attack (Mr. Aram Partizian, GTRI); Target Obscuration Using Tactical ECM Modulation (Mr. Neal Matovelle, NRL; Synthetic Aperture Radar Electronic Protection (Dr. Nikola Subotic, ERIM); Networking and Navigation Technologies for ESM (Mr. Dino Sofiano, SAIC); and Combined ESM and Radar, Foliage Penetration Radar (Mr. Lee Moyer, DARPA). Session III will address Signal Processing and the chairman will be Dr. Marvin Cohen, GTRI. Topics include: ECM/ECCM for Synthetic Aperture Radar (Mr. Aram Partizian and Mr. Rick Maier, GTRI); Composite Combat Identification (CCID), A Multi-Source ID Network (R. Franciose, ONR); Advanced Tactical Targeting Technology (AT3); Recent Advances in Target Tracking, Sensor Modeling, Countermeasures and Algorithm Development (Dr. W. Dale Blair, GTRI); Space-Time Adaptive Processing, A General Approach to Sensor Signal Processing (Dr. William Melvin, GTRI); and Active Electronically Scanned Antenna Technology (Mr. Tom Harmon, Northrop Grumman ESSS. Session IV will address Systems and will be chaired by Tom Underwood, Manager, RF Systems Engineering, Northrop Grumman, Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector. Topics will include: Vulnerability of Direction Finding Systems to Unintentional Polarization Jamming (Dr. John Landgren, GTRI); Global Hawk, Current System and Future Plans (John Entzminger, former deputy director of DARO); Airborne Reconnaissance Low (Mr. Dan Drago, California Microwave Systems); Miniature Satellite Threat Reporting System (Mr. Paul Wood, Litton); Sensor Craft (Mr. F. Paul Johnson, Air Force Research Lab); and Mainlobe Electronic Attack/Protection for Ballistic Missile Defense (Dr. David Aalfs, Mr. Mel Belcher, Dr. George Brown and Dr. Jeff Holder, GTRI; Mr. Don Chesley, Applied Physics Lab, Johns Hopkins University). This has been one of the more popular AOC conferences with interest and participation by both the radar and EW communities.
