The Naval Air Systems Command plans to competitively award a contract
for two AH-1W Flight Simulators during calendar year 1998 for a Foreign
Military Sales (FMS) Customer. These simulators will provide aircrew
training for an FMS Customer's AH-1W helicopters. The AH-1W is a
multi-mission, tandem seat, attack helicopter capable of land or sea
operations. The AH-1W's mission is to provide close in fire support and
fire support control under day, night, and adverse weather conditions.
Additional mission tasks include: armed escort for assault transport
helicopter, point target/anti-armor, anti-helicopter, point and limited
area air defense fixed wing threat, shore defense, and armed/visual
reconnaissance operations. Its weapons systems include rockets, a
turreted 20mm gun, and Hellfire, TOW, and Sidewinder missile systems.
The FMS customer's configuration includes the Night Targeting System
NTS), Airborne Target Handover System (ATHS), and Stores Control System
(SCS). This AH-1W Flight Simulator will facilitate the training in such
complex missions such as Terrain Flight (TERF) and TERF Navigation,
Night Vision Goggles (NVG), Air-to-Ground ordnance delivery, Air Combat
Maneuver (ACM), Electronic Warfare (EW), Emergency Procedures, and
basic familiarization training. The flight simulator and visual imaging
system must be capable of duplicating all aircraft operations and,
therefore, must meet the criteria associated with the term Weapon
Systems Trainer. It is NAVAIR's intention to release a competitive
Request for Proposal (RFP) in the February/March 1998 timeframe on the
NAVAIR Web Page (www.NAVAIR.NAVY.mil). In addition to the RFP, NAVAIR
intends to release the technical data package by either hard copy.
CD-ROM, or on the NAVAIR Web Page not later than the release date for
the RFP. A Bidder's Conference is tentatively planned for approximately
2 weeks after release of the RFP. Written questions shall be submitted
to NAVAIR (Naval Air Systems Command, Attn: Mr. Mike Crawford,
AIR-2.3.1.2.2, Building 2272, 47123 Buse Road (Unit IPT), Patuxent
River, MD 20670) not later than 3 working days before the bidder's
conference. (0034) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0271 19980205\69-0001.SOL)
