Description
Trawl vessels with a minimum registered length of 120 ft, and a minimum continuous horsepower from the main engine of 850 are needed to perform bottom trawl surveys in the Bering Sea in the summer 2002, with options to perform in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Two vessels are needed, and may be provided by one or more contractors (multiple contract awards will be allowed). Vessels must be able to tow a 25.3/34.1-m trawl along the seabed at a continuous speed of no more or less than 5.6 km/hr (3 kts) under normally expected fishing conditions and have demonstrable capability to maintain a speed of at least 18.7 km/hr (10 kts) cruising speed in reasonable seas. Vessel must have a sufficient fuel holding capacity to conduct survey operations for at least 4 weeks without refueling. Vessels must be completely rigged and ready to fish, including but not limited to the following: commercial scale trawl rigging; two net reels each with capacity for a 25.3/34.1-m trawl; split trawl winches with a minimum of 300 fm of 5/8-in diameter or larger trawl cable in good condition on each drum; a clean flush deck area of at least 600 sq ft; a protected and lighted area on deck such as a covered shelter deck; adequate fresh water for 11 people for 4 weeks; accommodations for crew and a 5 or 6-person scientific party. Minimum crew shall consist of a Captain, a cook-fishermen, a engineer-fishermen, and two fishermen. Performance begins and ends in Dutch Harbor, Alaska about June 1st, but possibly as early as May 15th. One vessel charter is for 65 days with 5 option days each year, and the other vessel charter is for 70 days with 5 option days each year. All responsible, responsive offers will be considered.
