- Description
- MARKET RESEARCH. NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT EXISTS. ?=20 The following Request for Information (RFI) is issued for purposes of conducting market research and encouraging commercial marine and dive support companies to provide information concerning current industry practices. Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) Ground Weapons Directorate is in the process of formulating the acquisition and life cycle support strategies for the Underwater Reconnaissance Capability (URC). The purpose of this RFI is to allow interested companies whose core business is Diver Propulsion Vehicles and/or Tactical Hydrographic Survey Equipment to provide insight into commercial business practices and common operating procedures and to allow them the opportunity to submit comments, ideas and /or suggestions. All information received will be considered as strategies are developed. Background information, Marine Corps Divers require a system to increase underwater time, distance and reconnaissance capabilities while improving survivability. This request for information addresses two specific projects: the Diver?s Propulsion Device (DPD) is an underwater motorized device that will provide long range underwater delivery of a combatant pair of divers from outside the threat range of beach defense detection capabilities to conduct amphibious reconnaissance missions in support of Operational Maneuver from the Sea (OMFTS). This will be a two-man or four-man portable system, powered by a rechargeable battery system. The Tactical Hydrographic Survey Equipment (THSE) is a hand-held underwater charting system, with GPS oriented/located known point underwater mapping capability, using sonar and computer technology. Used by combatant dive pairs or larger units, will provide the capability to conduct tactical submerged hydrographic reconnaissance and electronically chart the bottom conditions of the seaward approach to potential amphibious landing beaches in support of OMFTS. DPD and THSE will need to be compatible with current USN amphibious shipping capabilities for battery recharging, storage, GPS and computer systems repair, as well as common system-based tool set requirements for routine maintenance. The Marine Corps is looking for available COTS systems to fulfill these requirements. These systems will be equipped with a variety of military systems and will be operational and maintainable in all types of climates and terrain where Marines deploy, specifically, surf zone environments in arid, tropical, temperate, and arctic climates. The Marine Corps is interested in acquiring approximately 200 systems total. Industry firms capable of accomplishing the required services, in whole or in part, are invited to submit a response to this notice. Firms should identify/submit a copy of their GSA schedule. Firms should also include literature, brochures, price lists, and capabilities summaries directly addressing their ability to meet the aforementioned needs. Interested firms are requested to respond NLT 11 January 2002, stating their business size, NAICS Code, and identifying a corporate point of contact. Interested sources should respond to: (U. S. Mail address) Commander, Marine Corps Systems Command, ATTN CT-JC, 2033 Barnett Ave., Suite 315, Quantico, VA 22134-5010. THE SUBMISSION OF THIS INFORMATION IS FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY AND IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMITMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT TO PROCURE ANY ITEMS/SERVICES, NOR FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY FOR THE INFORMATION RECEIVED.=20
