Description

The Air Force Research Laboratory, Human Effectiveness Directorate, Crew Systems Interface Division (AFRL/HEC ) solicits research proposals on an Active Noise Reduction Earplug System to target 40-45 dB of hearing protection (when combined with a large volume circumaural hearing protector) for personnel working in hazardous sound fields (up to 150dB SPL) associated with aerospace and military environments (Relevant standards: (1) Department of Defense Instruction Number 6055.12: DoD Hearing Conservation Program, (2) Air Force Occupational Safety and Health Standard 48-19: Hazardous Noise Program). The cornerstone of the approach is a deep insert custom poured earphone (approaching the 2nd bend of the external ear canal) coupled with analog Active Noise Reduction (ANR). Offerors will submit proposals for review. The selected proposal(s) will deliver 10 working prototypes.
