- Description
- A New Optical Fiber For Use At High Temperature In An Environment Containing Hydrogen Gas Sandia National Laboratories has developed a design for a new optical fiber that may be useful in a high-temperature environment containing hydrogen gas. Hot geothermal wells, where distributed temperature sensing is performed using optical fibers, is a prominent example of such an environment. It is well-known within the geothermal industry that the optical properties some of the existing fibers often deteriorate because the hydrogen diffuses into the fiber and forms hydroxyl ions in the glass matrix. These ions absorb light. The new fiber, which can be created using existing technology, may be resistant to the formation of these ions. Sandia is making this technology available to companies interested in partnering with Sandia to develop near/term and/or future applications via licensing or cooperative development agreements. For further information please respond by mail or fax to Alane Dulski within 2 weeks at: Sandia National Laboratories, MS 1380, P.O. Box 5800, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87185-1380. Fax: (505) 843-4163. Please indicate the date and title of this CBD notice and the type of partnering agreements your company would be most interested in entering into.
