Description

Fishing vessel to conduct two mid-water to near-surface trawl surveys of juvenile salmonids and associated fishes, neuston, plankton, and other biological and physical measurements off SW Washington, Oregon, and Northern California. The Government will supply the trawl net and doors. The first cruise will be for 18 days from 1 June to 19 June and will be conducted between Newport, OR and Eureka, CA. The second sampling cruise will be for 18 days between 1-19 August and be conducted between Newport, OR and Eureka, CA as well. Minimum overall vessel length, approximately 20m (85 ft); Minimum continuous horsepower output from main engine, approx. 500 hp; Vessel must be able to tow standard hake trawl gear at a continuous speed of 7.5 km/hr (4 kts) under normally expected fishing conditions, however, NMFS will provide a smaller surface trawl gear and doors. Vessel should maintain a minimum cruising speed of at least 15 km/hr (8 kts) in low sea states; vessel should be completely rigged for mid-water trawling.
