- Description
- The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), Laboratory of Neurochemistry of the National Institute of Health, proposes to contract with Dr. Kiyoshi Kusano, Loree Lane, Rockville, MD 20853-2929. The Molecular Neuroscience Section of the Laboratory of Neurochemistry is conducting an on-going study of the mechanisms of gene expression and secretion of neuropeptides and monoamines in normal nervous systems and in neurodegenerative disorders. The proposed procurement will provide for a continuation of Dr. Kusano's services under previous NINDS purchase order 263MQ104822. The primary focus of this research is on the neuropeptides, oxytocin, and vasopressin in the hypothalamus and dopamine in the mesencephalon. These studies require expertise in molecular neurobiology, biochemistry, and neuroanatomy. An intensive study is required in order to fully understand the regulation of gene express and secretion, various signal transduction and physiological mechanism. NINDS requires expertise of Dr. Kusano, a highly qualified electrophysiologist, skilled in dissociated cell and organotypic tissue culture, single cell dissection for RT-PCR, immunocytochemical analyses, Fura-2 and GFP fluorescent imaging, basic electrophysiological techniques, and whole cell patch electrode method that are essential for obtaining a successful outcome of the experimental work. Dr. Kusano has the background and experience in interpreting the results of these experiments so as to correlate our in vitro studies with our transgenic in vivo studies. He has years of experience in electrophysiology and his expertise in the imaging of calcium Fura-2 and other fluorescent signals. He has a fundamental understanding of the program, its current and future direction and its needs for physiological and fluorescent imaging approaches. Dr. Kusano is an expert in the use of the Zeiss Attofluor ratiovision digital ratio imaging system with real-time video-based rationing system which is compatible with the present hardware (i.e., the Zeiss Axiovert 100 system). Dr. Kusano is the only known source to NINDS researcher(s) that has significant experience and expertise that is essential for the continuity of this study. This anticipated award will be awarded as a fixed price with a performance period of 1 year, plus an additional 1 year option, if exercised. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, including all techniques and demonstrated expertise, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any information must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NINDS to determine if the party can fully meet this requirement. An original and two copies of the capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 2:00 PM EST (local Washington, D.C. time) on November 30, 2001. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Moore, Purchasing Agent on (301)-402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. =20
