Description
The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), DII Asset Distribution System (DADS) Management Branch is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to industry. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY It is neither a Request for Proposal (RFP)/solicitation, nor an indication that DISA will contract for the items and services described in this RFI. There is no obligation on the part of the Government to acquire any products or services. The Government does not intend to award a contract solely on the basis of the RFI. The Government will NOT pay for information received in response to this RFI. Submitted documents will NOT be returned to those firms who provide responses to this RFI. The objective of this RFI is to obtain market research in order to assist in the development of preliminary acquisition planning. No award will be made on the basis of any responses to this RFI. =20 The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), DII Asset Distribution System (DADS) Management Branch is seeking sources that are capable of providing a commercial "off-the-shelf", product with download management capabilities that will be able to support an existing web-based cataloging and software repository. The DADS provides links to software and document files for users to download to their desktops. As is often the case with the Internet, downloading large files can be very slow and failures are not uncommon during the download process. A download manager serves to provide reliable, faster downloads. The download manager must automatically launch when a download URL is selected or provide an easy means for the URL to be transferred into the download manager queue. The existing DADS environment requires the use of encrypted web transmission (Secure Sockets Layer) and strong user authentication (PKI client certificates). Please refer to the table for a listing of specific requirements the product must target. Table 1: Download Manager Requirements DESCRIPTION/DIRECTIVE 1.1 The product shall be Microsoft Windows NT/2000/98/95 compatible. 1.2 The product shall be compatible with Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers. 1.3 The product shall provide the ability to use PKI Client Certificates for authentication to secure sites. 1.4 The product shall be able to download from secure servers (HTTPS). 1.5 The product shall be able to restart interrupted downloads from point of failure. 1.6 The product shall be able to schedule downloads for a later time. 1.7 The product shall provide the ability to queue multiple files for downloading. 1.8 The product shall provide simple installation. 1.9 The product shall provide an easy-to-use graphical user interface. 1.10 The product shall not display any commercial banners or advertisements. 1.11 The vendor shall provide support and maintenance for the product. 1.12 The product shall be able to track the completion status of a file download. 1.13 The product shall be able to maintain the history of the files downloaded. 1.14 The product shall be able to display all scheduled downloads. 1.15 The product shall be able to display downloads by date, filename and file size. Proprietary information will be safeguarded in accordance with the applicable Government regulations. The vendor will incur, if applicable, all costs associated with modifying the product in order to meet the requirements listed. Firms who wish to respond to this RFI should include: ? A brief summary of the products offered in response to this RFI ? A statement indicating an interest and capability to produce the product as described ? An estimate of the time required to develop, test, and deliver the product and supporting documentation ? A cost/ROM for the licensing and maintenance options for the product is needed for budgetary planning purposes.
