Description

The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a 5-10W solid state, air cooled laser which must have a 10 meter steel clad cable connecting the power supply to the laser head. This is critical for our research to adequately separate the noise and heat of the power supply from the optical microscope. Requirements are: 1) 10 meter steel clad cable allows for the separation of laser head; this is essential for allowing us to isolate the laser head from the noise and heat of the power supply. 2) Acoustical noise and drift caused by heat are our two primary noise sources; 3) Less than 5 microrad/deg c pointing stability is also essential for our measurements since beam pointing instability determines the stability of the optical trap location. It is the intent of the Government to award this procurement on a sole source basis under authority of 41 U.S.C.253(c)(1) with Spectra Physics of Mountain View, California. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (NTE $100,000). This synopsis is issued for information only. No competitive solicitation is planned. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government's best interest and must address qualifications pertinent to this requirement.
