- Description
- 17. This acquisition is the second phase of the two step acquisition process. Phase 1 was for pre-qualification of contractors. That was accomplished under solicitation number DACW31-01-R-0039 (Construction and/or Renovation to Kelly Miller Middle School and Patterson Elementary School for the District of Columbia Public Schools, Washington, DC). The existing school is being demolished under separate contract. Some of the following conditions may be applicable: Utilities cut and capped; some grading; storm water management; erosion; sheeting and sediment control measures in place. Kelly Miller Middle Schools is the first school for modernization/renovations as a result of phase 1 of this two-step process. Under the two-step acquisition method bids will only be accepted from the pre-qualified contractors. Interested parties are responsible for doing their own marketing. The project description as originally published under DACW31-01-R-0039 is repeated for information: The project consists of building a new, 600 student Kelly Miller Middle School in Washington, DC. The existing school building is being demolished under a separate contract and the site will be left with utilities cut and capped, and some grading, storm water management, and erosion and sediment control measures in place. The new school is a 3-story building of approximately 118,000 gross square feet. The building's structural system will primarily consist of structural steel. The foundation system will consist of both piles and spread concrete footings. The exterior finish will be a multi-color brick and cast stone veneer. Interior finishes will typically consist of sheet linoleum flooring, painted CMU walls, and ACT drop-in ceilings, although special rooms will have other finishes such as ceramic or terrazzo tile and carpet. Mechanical, electrical (including low-voltage), plumbing, fire protection, and security systems will also be part of the project, as will an elevator. The project site is approximately 7 acres. Site work includes the relocation of an existing basketball and tennis court, providing new sidewalks and curb cuts, providing block retaining walls and new fencing and constructing an entrance drive and parking areas. Landscaping work will include planting shrubs and small trees around the building, as well as providing trees, grass, and other miscellaneous plantings.
