- Description
- 17. This acquisition is the second phase of the two step acquisition process. Phase 1 was for pre-qualification of contractors. That was accomplished under solicitation number DACW31-01-R-0039 (Construction and/or Renovation to Kelly Miller Middle School and Patterson Elementary School for the District of Columbia Public Schools, Washington, DC). The existing school is being demolished under separate contract. Some of the following conditions may be applicable: Utilities cut and capped; some grading; storm water management; erosion; sheeting and sediment control measures in place. Patterson Elementary School is the second school for modernization/renovations as a result of phase 1 of the two-step process. Under the two-step acquisition method bids will only be accepted from the pre-qualified contractors. Interested parties are responsible for doing their own marketing. The project description as originally published under DACW31-01-R-0039 is repeated for information: PATTERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Project consist of building a new, 520 student Patterson Elementary School at 4355 South Capitol Street, SW, Washington, DC (approximately one mile south of Bolling Air Force Base). The existing school building is being demolished under a separate contract and the site will be left with sheeting and sediment control measures in place. This project will require some further demolition of existing sidewalks in the public space and additional site preparation, including tree removal. The new school building is a 2 and 3-story building of approximately 81,000 gross square feet of occupied space on a footprint of 45,000 square feet. The new school will also include approximately 10,000 square feet of unfinished basement storage space. The building's structural system will primarily consist of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) tilt-up panels, with hollow-core concrete slab floors. There will also be some limited use of pre-cast structural concrete frames and steel roof framing at select locations. The foundations will bear on drilled caissons. Concrete footings, below-grade walls, and slab-on-grade first floor are also part of the foundation design. The exterior finish will be a multi-color brick veneer. Interior finished will typically consist of vinyl composition tile (VCT) flooring, painted plaster walls, and ACT drop-in-ceilings, through special rooms will have other finished such as ceramic tile and carpet. Mechanical, electrical (including low-voltage), plumbing, fire protection, and security systems will also be part of the project, as will an elevator. The project site is approximately 2.33 acres. Site work include providing new sidewalks and curb cuts, providing block retaining walls, and constructing parking areas. Landscaping work will include plaiting shrubs and small trees in raised planting beds around the building, as well as providing trees, grass, and other miscellaneous plantings. Outdoor surfaces will also include painted asphalt play surfaces and poured latest safety surfaces. A metal fence with some brick piers will surround much of the site. Work requires providing new utilities, including a storm water management system, will also be a part of the site work.
