- Description
- It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to negotiate on a sole-source basis with Nidus Information Services Inc. 41 E. 11 St., 11th floor, New York, NY 10003 to procure Well-Connected? Reports in English and Spanish for access through Medlineplus, an NLM internet site. The period of performance of the procurement will be a twelve (12) month base year with two twelve (12) month option years. The NLM is developing and managing Medlineplus, an easily understandable WorldWide Web resource to assist consumers in obtaining the information they need to make informed decision about health care. Medlineplus links to MEDLINE, the world's largest database of peer-reviewed information, as well as to self-help groups, the NIH consumer health information site, clearinghouses, health-related organizations, and clinical trials. In addition to general health topics, Medlineplus provides access to extensive, authoritative information about specific diseases and conditions ("Health Topics"). The site includes cutting-edge information on hundreds of diseases and is continuously expanded. The purpose of this procurement is to obtain access to the authoritative, in-depth consumer-oriented health information in English and Spanish needed to complement other information available on the NLM site. By virtue of their range of medical subject matter covered, their authoritativeness, depth of treatment, availability in both English and Spanish, ease of use, availability in XML, regularity and frequency of update, clarity of articles, currency of information, and objectiveness (e.g. ad-free environment), NLM has determined that Nidus is uniquely qualified and the only source capable of providing the required services listed above. This notice of intent is not a Request for Competitive Quotations (RFQ), nor is an RFQ available. However, all proposals received within 15 days from the date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by NIH. The reference number for any questions concerning this announcement is NLM 02-022/DJH.
