- Description
- The Food and Drug Administration is seeking sources to trap rhesus macaques from a free ranging environment, transport, and house them in a corral/corn crib environment. The colony is currently located on a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. The prospective contractor would be responsible for safely capturing approximately 3000 rhesus macaques, transporting them off of the island to a relocation site, and providing for year round outdoor breeding and daily maintenance of the colony. The prospective contractor would be responsible for providing all necessary facilities for housing the animals in such a way as to maximize the reproductive capabilities of the colony. The care, maintenance and transportation of the animals will be consistent with the terms of the Animal Welfare Act of 1966 (PL89-544) and all of it's amendments. Prospective contractors would provide qualified veterinary services for clinical care of the animals. Interested parties shall provide a capability statement that shall include plans for capture and transporting the animals, as well as information concerning the facilities in which the animals would be housed. Relevant experience of key personnel and of the potential source in maintaining a macaque breeding colony shall also be included. This is not a request for proposal. The FDA is at this time seeking qualified sources. The due date for receipt of capability statements is C.O.B., 11/30/01, and shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer noted in this synopsis.
