Description
DESC: TACOM-Rock Island is soliciting information from industry. Your participation in this Market Research is voluntary and at no cost to the Government. The item is a BATTERY-12 VOLT. Estimated requirements are 374 each. The 12 Volt BATTERY must meet t he following basic item description and technical requirements: high power, sealed, lead acid, deep cycle in a seal polypropylene material case that is 6.80 inches wide and 10.00 inches long and 7.80 inches high and weighs 48.9 lbs. Its capacity is 55 amp hours (C/20) and has a SAE/BCI automotive terminal configuration and has a cycle life-deep cycle (BCI): ~350 cycles. Recommended charging: Battery charger -- 13.8 to 15.0 volts, 20 amps maximum. Float charge: 13.2 to 13.8 volts, 1 amp maximum. Battery has a spiral cell design that provides many features not found in other conventional 12-volt batteries. The spiral cell design has individual cells that have only two plates, one positive and one negative. These thin lead plates are wound into a tight spiral separated by an absorbent glass. The material is very thin allowing for the lead plates to be closer together. This close proximity of the plates enhances current flow and lowers the batteries internal resistance to provide higher amounts of power. The des ign of the cell allows the battery to use a higher purity of lead plating which resists corrosion and lasts longer in high temperature environments. The use of thinner lead plates allows more winds per cell to increase the surface area of the cell to incre ase energy stored in the battery and minimize the overall size of the battery. This battery is completely sealed and can't leak if the battery is cracked open. The electrolyte is completely absorbed by a porous glass separator in each cell. The spiral cel l resists jarring and vibration and precludes plate shedding. The battery performs well in extreme cold and hot temperatures. It has zero maintenance and no corrosion of the battery terminals and never needs water added to it. It has a low rate of self-dis charge as far as shelf life is concerned. The battery has faster recharge and energy response and better recovery from discharge. It can be mounted in any position. The qualifications of the battery for any vendor is as described above and includes the fo llowing: PERFORMANCE: The battery must meet the stringent design goal of 10 hours of full operation. ENVIRONMENTAL: The battery must meet the following environment: Cold Temperature Storage-more than 4 hours storage at 50C, Cold Temperature Operating-10 hours operating at 40C, Hot Temperature Storage-more than 4 hours storage at 150C, Hot Temperature Operating-10 hours operating at 140C, Airdrop Shock-30G s for 30 msec, while mounted, Gun Shock-200 G s for 0.5 msec, Vibration-10 to 500Hz at 10 to 100 G s , INTERFACE AND INTEROPERABILITY: A battery box design was optimized for the dimensional and material design of the subject battery. The following information is solicited from industry: (1) Do you have a commercial item (with or without minor modification s) that meets the stated requirements? If yes, please provide a description of the item, delivery time, and its cost. Describe any modifications required. (2) What are the customary industry practices regarding warranty, buyer financing, discounts, distr ibution, support, maintenance, packaging, and marking? (3) What are the customary practices regarding product testing? What types of tests are performed, and how often. (4) What is your small business size status? (5) Provide an estimated lead time to man ufacture the estimated quantity stated above. This synopsis does not constitute a commitment by the Government to place this effort on contract with anyone who submits data or costs. This synopsis does not constitute authorization to begin work or incur co sts against this request. In accordance with FAR Clause 52.215-3, the Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this solicitation or to ot herwise pay for the information solicited. Once the information requested is received and evaluated, an acquisition strategy will be developed. Interested vendors are instructed to reply by submission of an email response to graffl@ria.army.mil, or, dataf ax (309) 782-1961, ATTN: Linda Graff. Any said responses should include the following information; CAGE Code, Company Name, Point of Contact, Street Address, City, State, Zip Code, Telephone Number.
