Description

This is a special notice issued by Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC), management and operating contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site near Aiken, South Carolina. WSRC wishes to determine public interest in licensing a new algorithm for Gaussian event counting instrumentation. Counting algorithms have been implemented for fixed time as well as fixed pulse counting systems. These systems can have unacceptable variances at low counting ranges or unacceptably long response times. The new algorithm uses modified fixed pulse counting in which minimum and maximum time limits are imposed on the pulse acquisition. This approach attempts to acquire a significant number of pulses, within a defined counting range, while being confined to minimum and maximum time constraints. The algorithm is preferred for eight bit embedded microprocessor applications because it minimizes the amount of floating point math and has the least amount of variation.
