Description

In place overhaul of two Detroit engines. Overhaul should include rings bearing sleeves, etc. Replacement of major assemblies should only be considered where rebuilding is not feasible, i.e. blowers and coolers. Only genuine Detroit parts may be used in this overhaul. Run in of engine shall be accomplished in accordance with DCC procedures, and observed by the government. Be advised these engines have .020 oversize cylinders. In addition to the engine overhaul, all gauges instruments associated with the engines will require calibration. The following instrumentation shall be added for both engines in a location most desirable to the engineer. 1. Manifold air pressure gages. 2. Oil temperature gages. 3. Water pressure gages (engine jacket water only). Contractor shall provide the following readings/data to government for baseline engine wear guide. 1. inspect accessory drive and crankshaft gear for broken teeth, unusual waer pattern, excessive wear and improper lubrication. 2. Check the manual trip stop lever capscrew for tightness and test operate trip mechanism prior to operational test. 3. Crankshaft thrust. Mim max and actual 4. Blower readings. Install thermocouples and pyrometer system to monitor exhaust temperatures. Job will not be considered complete until a satisfactory operational test has been completed jointly, with contractor and boat crew and all test data has been received by the government.
