Description

17. The Naval Sea Systems Command intends to issue a solicitation for ship design concept exploration research and development, ship detail design, and production/assembly of conversion material kits in support of the conversion of Ohio Class Nuclear Powered Submarines (SSBN) to Ohio Class Guided Missile Nuclear Powered Submarines (SSGN). The SSGN effort consists of research and development for ship design concept exploration, ship detail design, material procurement, component fabrication, production/assembly of conversion material kits, and onsite technical support for the conversion. Solicitation N00024-02-R-2901 will be issued to Electric Boat Corporation (EBC), 75 Eastern Point Road, Groton, CT 06340 on a sole source basis. EBC is the sole designer, developer and builder of the OHIO Class submarines and possesses the unique expertise, technical knowledge and required ba ckground necessary to perform the design effort on a timeline that supports the SSGN conversion schedule.
