Description
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is conducting a survey to identify resellers, firms providing information data services to others, and other types of licensees or commercialization partners to MARKET and/or DISTRIBUTE the Palmfon software developed for the Department of Energy. This application suite provides easy access to corporate databases for users of handheld PDA devices such as Palm Pilots and Windows Pocket PC devices. Its DATA COMPRESSION technology makes it very feasible to download large databases to PDA hand-held devices for users to retrieve & search on the extracted data. Palmfon operates on the following platforms: Palm OS devices; Wireless PDA's; Microsoft Pocket PC / WinCE computers; and, the Web itself. Comprised of both client and server modules, Palmfon is written using Java Servlets, JDBC and Java 2 Micro Edition. Palmfon enables authorized users to extract and download records of SQL-compliant databases to hand-held PDA devices. Its Web interface enables an administrator to easily select the content and format of the data (employee, product, customer, inventory, technical, HAZMAT, etc.) to be downloaded to the users' PDA devices. An SQL query is run on the database resulting in a table(s) of data which is then compressed and converted by Palmfon into a form suitable for quick loading onto PDA devices. Users load the data onto their PDA for immediate use and searching on the extracted data. User access is through a simple Web-based lookup or standalone applications for handheld devices such as Palm Pilots and Windows Pocket PC devices. Note, a wireless connection is not required. Unlike other software, Palmfon supports MULTIPLE sets (tables) of data records (employee, product, reference, etc.) to be stored and accessed on the PDA device. Palmfon applications include product data, marketing and/or customer data, inventory status, pricing data, employee directories, HAZMAT references, regulatory info, equipment specs for repair/maintenance, law enforcement / emergency management data, and any other information that can be retrieved from a relational database. Overall, users who own hand-held PDA devices can now have complete access to important data even when not wired to the organization's central database environment. For more detail and a demo of the Palmfon application suite, visit the www.pnnl-software.com/palmfon Web site. Additional information may be obtained via the info@pnnl-software.com email link. Interested and qualified firms should respond in writing, emailed or postmarked or faxed no later than November 12, 2001.
