Description

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking an organization or an institution to perform preclinical toxicity studies of iron chelating compounds for potential use in the safe and effective removal of iron deposits in patients with iron overload conditions (e.g., Cooley's anemia). A clinical evaluation is not desired at this time. The contractor shall conduct toxicologic and related studies of selected iron chelating compounds, in rats, dogs, and other model systems as directed by the Project Officer, and shall assist the NIDDK and its scientific consultants by preparing reports based on the resulting toxicologic information for submission as Investigational New Drug applications (IND) to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of eventual clinical studies. The drugs under development are considered to be orphan drugs. The Requests for Proposals, RFP No. NIH-NIDDK-01-10 will be issued on or about November 1, 2001 with a closing date on or about December 17, 2001. Requests for the RFP must be in writing (by mail, fax, or e-mail) addressed to the Contracting Officer cited above, and must cite the referenced RFP number. All responsible sources may submit a proposal that will be considered by the agency. The Government is not committed to award a contract pursuant to this announcement.
