Description

FHWA's Western Federal Lands Highway Division, Vancouver, WA, anticipates requesting proposals or soliciting sealed bids after January 1, 2002, for the construction of highway improvements on the Grand Loop Road in Yellowstone National Park. Portions of the Grand Loop road slated for improvement include part of the segment from Canyon to Tower and the segment from Canyon to Fishing Bridge. Anticipated highway construction improvements are expected to exceed $10,000,000 and be completed during the 2002, 2003, and 2004 summer construction seasons. This special notice is published to notify firms potentially interested in performing this forthcoming work. Firms interested in performing this work are advised that access into Yellowstone National Park and to the construction sites will become restricted by snow prior to the issue of the solicitation package with final plans and specifications. The Park and the project sites are typically closed to access due to snow beginning in November. Preliminary project information, however, will be available for distribution to interested firms on or about October 5, 2001. Potentially interested firms are encouraged to schedule a site visit following the receipt of this preliminary information and prior to significant snowfall occurring in the Park. Firms visiting the site with the preliminary information will be able to adequately assess the general scope of anticipated construction, the logistics and physical impacts affecting the work and other factors necessary to subsequently prepare a price proposal or bid following receipt of the solicitation package expected to be available on or about January 15, 2002.
