Description
Biomolecular Motors (BMM) Workshop, SN01-21. The Defense Sciences Office (DSO) of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is sponsoring an informational and team-forming workshop on Biomolecular Motors. This workshop will take place October 22, 2001, at the Hyatt Arlington Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Attendance at the Workshop is OPTIONAL, BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all potential bidders. The workshop will be held in support of DARPA's new program entitled "Biomolecular Motors." The goals of this program are (1) Explore the fundamental barriers and opportunities to utilizing biological motors as useful devices, (2) Determine what useful devices and applications can be envisioned, and (3) Determine & evaluate the tools and metrics that are required in order to make significant progress in science and technology in this area. The one-day workshop is intended to explore components of the program and to nurture discussion and ideas from the community in preparation for proposal submission. The workshop will bring together experts in biological molecular motors, cell biology, muscle physiology, bioengineering, nano and microfabrication tools, materials, and robotics to discuss recent advances in our understanding of the biology, force dynamics, energetics, and engineering of biological motors. The agenda for the meeting will consist of presentations from DARPA and other Defense organizations that have interest in this area as well as brief presentations from the community on specific areas relevant to our program goals. Details of the Workshop, including information regarding registration may be found at the BMM registration website, http://www.eventmakeronline.com/dso/View/index.asp?MeetingID=3D66.
