Description

The Umatilla National Forest is soliciting quotes for the mapping and classification of riparian areas, riparian vegetation class and stream types on selected watersheds in the Blue Mountains. Tasks to be completed include the following: 1)Classify Rosgen stream types and Strahler stream order within specified watersheds. 2)Delineate riparian areas in non-forested areas by aerial photo interpretation, and in forested areas by GIS buffering. 3)Classify riparian vegetation in total mapped area using combination of satellite imagery and/or aerial photo interpretation 4)Field verification of 6 random points per watershed. Project located of selected watersheds is within and adjacent to the Umatilla, Wallowa-Whitman and Malheur National Forests, located in northeastern Oregon. Watersheds range in size from 40,000 to 200,000 acres (riparian areas occupy a small percent of watersheds typically 3.5% of watershed areas so actual area to be mapped is much smaller than watershed). This project is being funded with specialized funds referred to as "Demo Money". This type of funding allows the Government to give priority in the selection process to local contractors.
