- Description
- Sponsored by the National Defense Industrial Association In conjunction with the Office of the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Maintenance Policy, Programs & Resources) Background: The 5th Annual DoD Maintenance Symposium & Exhibition is being held October 29 -- November 1, 2001 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City, Missouri. This symposium is the major defense forum to address issues and innovation for equipment maintenance, with more than 1,000 participants from all ranks, Services and industry, and over 125 exhibits. Agenda: This year's symposium will explore how the Military Services are applying innovative solutions to execute their maintenance requirements. This includes restructuring maintenance concepts to reduce deployment footprints and incorporate state-of-the-art information systems, such as Enterprise Resource Planning; recapitalization to improve parts reliability and equipment availability; increasing integration of commercial support; and adopting recent commercial developments such as "lean" concepts. Readiness challenges that are being addressed extend from the operating tempos of continuous deployments to the growing effects of aging systems' maintenance requirements. Maintenance innovation applies to new systems, where technology can be built-in, and also to older systems that demand an increasing share of maintenance resources. Maintenance is being reshaped to support the operating forces, even while the operating forces are being rebuilt to address the realities of future conflicts. The list of innovative concepts is growing as the Services implement Automated Information Systems, Condition-Based Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Embedded Diagnostics, Automatic Identification Technologies, Prognostics, Partnering and other types of integrated support solutions. This year's maintenance symposium will focus on the many innovations that are contributing to improved weapon system maintenance at field and depot levels, as well as in the private sector. The agenda is designed to be a top-to-bottom look that is loaded with information for all maintainers, from technicians to senior managers. Symposium Objective: Address key challenges and explore common interests for maintenance management systems, technologies and processes that will transform maintenance operations for the 21st century. The Symposium will: Review and demonstrate emerging technology applications for maintenance processes Explore the use of innovative maintenance solutions in the operating commands Showcase world-class operations Review management and technical solutions now in design and development Identify needs for new management tools, research and products Who should attend: Senior defense logistics and resource managers Maintenance managers throughout the Military Services and international counterparts Production, process and information system specialists Researchers and product development representatives Commercial product support providers and OEMs Everyone interested in successful DoD maintenance operations For more conference information or to register go to the conference weblink below.
