Description

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) intends to negotiate a sole source five-year continua tion of contract number N01-HB-67129, with Maryland Medical Research Institute (MMRI). As the medical coordinati ng center for the Multicenter Study of Hydroxyurea in Sickle Cell Anemia (MSH) Patients Follow-Up, MMRI is respon sible for clinical follow up of study participants, submission of health status forms, and coordination with the twenty-one MSH clinical centers. This longitudinal epidemiologic study is to ascertain long-term toxic effects o f hydroxyurea usage in the sickle cell anemia patient population who participated in the MSH clinical trial (1991 -1995). The period of performance for this Continuation is expected to be August 1, 2002 through July 31, 2007. The authority to use other than full and open competition is 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. Th e incumbent has been performing work under the contract and, therefore, has unique capability to provide the requ ired services to the NHLBI without substantial duplication of cost and unacceptable delays due to contractor tran sition and learning curve.
