Description
The United States Naval Facilities Engineering Command issues a Notice of Intent to Bid for a construction contract for SACLANT Headquarters Expansion, Naval Station, Norfolk, Virginia. The project will provide a new auditorium and conference center and extend the existing five-story tower of building NH-31. The auditorium will seat 150 people and includes a stage and projection room. The conference center will include a lobby, office, telephone rooms, coatroom, toilet rooms and storage. The additions will provide 2,491 SM of steel-framed structure clad in brick with pre-cast concrete parapet copings. The brick, pre-cast concrete and glass curtain wall shall match the materials of the existing building. The addition will also provide new toilets at each level to satisfy the barrier-free requirements of the existing building and the requirements for additional toilets associated with the added building area. The second through fifth floors of the addition have a four-story atrium with a full skylight above bringing natural light down into the interior offices. Approximately 4,425 square meters of the existing building will be renovated. The renovation work will include interior demolition, new partitions, finishes, lighting and modification of the HVAC system within the renovated area. Existing spandrel glass panels in one bay of the northern and southern exterior curtain walls will be replaced with vision glass to bring additional natural light into the building interior. Building utilities shall tie into existing underground utilities. Existing site utilities shall be rerouted t accommodate the new construction of this project. Approximately 3,100 SM of paved parking shall be provided with site lighting. Storm water drainage shall tie into existing underground storm water lines. The work will be phased with different start and completion dates for the construction of the new addition and the renovation of the existing building. The existing building will remain in full operation during the new construction/renovation portion of the project. All applicants must be certified by the NATO procurement officer at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Telecommunications.
