- Description
- The Bureau of Reclamation intends to award a sole source financial assistance agreement to Arizona State University in support of ASU's study entitled, "Razorback Sucker Genetics". This study will evaluate the genetic diversity of repatriated razorback suckers in Lake Mohave. A cooperative razorback sucker repatriation program was initiated in 1991 under the auspices of the multi-agency Native Fish Work Group (NFWG) to prevent extirpation and loss of the Lake Mohave stock. The NFWG captures wild razorback sucker larvae from Lake Mohave, Arizona, rears them in protected sites, then stocks large juveniles back into the lake. More than 500,000 larvae have been harvested, and about 50,000 young fish have been stocked. About 148,000 individuals being held in grow-out facilities are scheduled for stocking by 2003. Information and data obtained from this study will be used to: (1) provide direction for hatchery and repatriation programs; (2) examine the genetic variation within and among larval and adult samples of the razorback sucker population and assess ongoing repatriation programs; and (3) make decisions regarding hatchery operations, grow-out, harvest, and stocking protocols, brood stock acquisition, field activities, and overall conservation management. Other potential recipients may identify their interest and capability to conduct a similar study. This notice is neither a request for applications nor for proposals. However, all information received by the contact listed below within fifteen days after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination not to compete this proposed financial assistance agreement based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to compete this financial assistance project. Also, see CBD Note 25.
