Description
The purpose of this notification is to amend synopsis/solicitation number N00173-01-R-RS03 for Radiation Hardened Single Board Space Computers, previously posted in the FBO and CBD on 09 August 2001. This amendment is numbered 0001, and responds to technical and business questions posed against the original synopsis/solicitation. No extension to the closing date is authorized under this amendment. Question 1: In item (f), the radiation specification is as follows: (The SBSC shall be capable of surviving a total dose of 100 Krad (SI) and be immune to latchup. The Single Event Upset (SEU) rate shall be less than IE-5 upsets/day at a radiation rate consistent with geosynchronous earth orbits (GEO)) Please clarify the Linear Energy Threshold (LET) required for the latchup criteria. Answer 1: The LET is currently set at 80 for parts that would require no qualification or waiver. Question 2: When is the targeted award date for this synopsis/solicitation. Answer 2: The Government anticipates award of this synopsis/solicitation not later than 30 September 2001. Question 3: What is required in proving that the computer board satisfies the radiation requirements ? analysis by parts datasheet or previous radiation report for similar part in the family or proton/heavy ion radiation testing at board level? If testing is required, what is the level of energies required for beam strength? Answer 3: Testing at component or board is required at the levels specified in the synopsis/solicitation. Analysis is not acceptable. Question 4: How rigid is the total ionizing dose requirement of 100kRads? In Space Station orbit, a computer board only accumulates at a maximum rate of 3 kRad per year. Do you plan to operate this computer board for more than 5 years in orbit? Answer 4: The Government?s goal is to operate this system for at least 5 years. There is some room, but not a factor of 5 or 10. Question 5: Is there any possibility of waiver for parts that do not satisfy one of the radiation characteristics? Answer 5: No waiver will be granted for any part needed for the function of the board. Question 6: Which version of VxWorks is required for the board support package? Answer 6: VxWorks AE 1.0 with Tornado 3.0. No other changes are made in the synopsis/solicitation.
