Description

The National Marine Fisheries Service has a requirement to conduct a cruise to recover tagged Atka mackerel in the vicinity of Seguam Pass. The charter will augment the tag recovery effort by the commercial fleet during the B-season Atka mackerel fishery, and will also provide tag recovery effort in the area closed to the fishery. The starting date is negotiable between November 14, 2001 and January 5, 2002, and will continue until 750,000 Atka mackerel are caught and examined. The vessel will supply all trawl nets, trawl rigging, doors and net electronics, be a minimum of 125 feet in length, and have sufficient fuel-holding capacity to conduct the charter operations for at least 21 days without refueling. The vessel must be equipped with an inside factory for processing and freezing fish if the vessel operator chooses to process and retain the scientific catch for sale on the commercial market. In addition to having a crew commensurate with vessel size and the expected catch, the Contractor must also provide at least two (2) trained biologists to conduct data collection operations.
