Description
The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, has a requirement for the FUTURE COMBAT SYSTEM (FCS) MULTI-ROLE ARMAMENT AND AMMUNITION SYSTEM (MRAAS). The MRAAS intends to provide full spectrum lethality from a single lightweight gun. The MRAAS program will mature and integrate key technology enablers such as robotics, advanced propulsion, recoil mitigation, lightweight materials, advanced sensors and communication, multipurpose warheads, and precision munitions. Precision munitions are a key element to the MRAAS concept for they enable an extended lethal reach of the MRAAS platform. The capability to destroy targets beyond the effective standoff of the enemy is particularly important for the survivability of the MRAAS platform since aggressive weight goals constrain the use of heavy armor. Although a very effective active protection system (APS) is envisioned as an integral part of the MRAAS platform, the extended lethal reach provided by precision munitions will ensure the burden put on the APS will maintain within reasonable bounds. The MRAAS munition suite effort focuses on acquiring a small family of munitions capable of defeating the entire target spectrum at extended ranges. This acquisition is being managed from the suite perspective in order to provide ample trade space to aggressively address affordability issues, encourage commonality, and ensure that individual munition capabilities are complementary to others in the suite. Well defined, ample trade space enables the search for best value and minimizes false starts. The MRAAS munition suite tech base effort for this phase is as follows: Breadboard Validation in Simulated Environment for Extended Range Tank Killer. Refine Proposed Concept; Design, Build, and Test Breadboard Design; Demonstrate Technical Maturity of Design; Document and Report Progress throughout. It is anticipated that the solicitation will be issued on or about 31 August 2001 and will be available on the World Wide Web at the following address: http://procnet.pica.army.mil. Hard (paper) copies of this solicitation will not be issued. Contractors are required to be registered in the DOD Central Contractor Registry and paid via electronic funds transfer. The point of contact for this requirement is Mr. Robert McMinn on 973-724-3504, email: rmcminn@pica.army.mil or Mary Lou Desseaux on 973-724- 3217, email: mdess@pica.army.mil.
