Description
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking one or more industrial partners to commercialize LLNL's diagnostic for electron beam certification that provides rapid measurement and certification of high power electron beams. This patented technique couples computer assisted tomographic imaging (CT) with a modified Faraday cup (MFC) technique to reconstruct the electron beam's intensity and shape from multiple profiles of the beam taken at radial angles. This diagnostic device captures the electron beam profiles in a fraction of a second, and processes this data using a conventional laptop computer to render an image of the electron beam's power-density distribution, nearly in real time. The speed and ease of use of this diagnostic tool enables weld operators to repeatedly produce a focused beam of a known power density distribution, which is not currently possible on commercial electron beam welders. Electron beam diagnostics further provide weld engineers with the ability to acquire a permanent quality control record of the beam, to repeat and duplicate welds on the same machine over a period of time, and to transfer welding parameters between machines and to different facilities. The potential for automated focusing of the electron beam exists by further coupling this diagnostic to servo-feedback control of the electron beam welder's focusing optics. This diagnostic tool is currently being tested in production weld environments at two DOE facilities, and will be available for wider distribution in the near future. Companies interested in commercializing the diagnostic tool for Electron Beam Certification should provide a written statement of interest that must include the following information: (1) company name and address, (2) the name, address, telephone number, and fax number of a point of contact, (3) a description of your company's expertise and facilities in the relevant technologies and (4) statement of your company's potential interest in research partnering. This is not a procurement. Statements of interest should be sent to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization Office, P.O. Box 808, L-795, Livermore, CA 94551 Attention: CBD-01-014. Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is printed to ensure consideration of your response.
