Description

The US Army Research Laboratory, Weapons and Materials Division, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD 21005, intends to award on a sole-source basis to Viscotek Corporation, Houston, TX for the purchase of a 300 Series Differential Viscometer/RALLS & LALLS Light Scattering, Part No. 302-040 (QTY 1 EA),Isocratic pump solvent delivery system, (QTY 1 EA), 6-port manual injector, (QTY 1 EA), 2-channel, on-line degasser,(QTY 1 EA), Pentium data station with 950C ink-jet printer (QTY 1 EA), TriSEC GPC Software package (includes acquisition and reports) WIN-03 Triple Detector data processing module (QTY 1 EA), ViscoGEL GMHHR-H ViscoGEL linear columns for non-aqueous, (QTY 1 EA), GMHHR-M linear columns for non-aqueous, (QTY 1 EA), PolyCAL Standards (6x2 Box) Triple detection,(QTY 1 EA), Installation and on-site training, (QTY 1 LT). The requested system has a combination detection system that uses a refratometer, viscometer, and light scattering detector. Triple detection provides absolute molecular weight, molecular size (to less than 1nm) and intrinsic viscosity, as well as information on conformation, branching and aggregation in a single, simple GPC experiment. It is the only detection technique capable of giving this information on-line in a continuous flow mode. The 4-capillary viscometer system is patented by Viscotek, and allows measurement of very low intrinsic viscosity. The Viscotek low-angle light scattering detector functions at an angle of 7-degrees. Low-Angle Light Scattering is the only GPC detection method that provides absolute molecular weights without extrapolation or correction. The Viscotek LALS directly measures molecular weight for a large range of synthetic polymers, natural polymers and proteins. The Army Research Laboratory has found no other source that can provide a viscometer with all the above requirements, 4-capillary, low-angle light scattering and go as low as 7-degrees.
