Description

The U.S. Dept. of Commerce/NOAA/NOS/OCRM/Estuarine Reserves Division intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the National Estuarine Research Reserve Association (NERRA) to develop a national strategy for acquiring lands within the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). The objectives of the project are as follows: 1) Identify priority land acquisition needs for each of the reserves; 2) Build partnerships to assist the system in reaching acquisition goals; 3) Develop an implementation strategy for system-wide land acquisition. NERRS is a network of regionally-based programs representing diverse estuarine and coastal ecosystems throughout the U.S. and its territories. A preliminary survey of NERRS sites has indicated that there is an interest in land acquisition within the NERRS. The National Estuarine Research Reserve Association serves as the primary advocate for the NERRS and along with its partners (i.e. NOAA, the Coastal States Organization and others) works to increase public awareness and advance the mission of the NERRS and conduct strategic planning and related projects in support of the NERRS.
