- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) formerly Health Care Financing Administration intends to award Stategies for Enhancing Cultural Diversity at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and other Federal Agencies: A Multicultural Consultation Workshop on a sole source basis to Summit Health Institute for Research and Education, Inc. (SHIRE), 440 First Street, NW, Suite 430, Washington, D.C. 20001. The objectives of the workshop are Identifiy and secure the participation in a CMS sponsored working group of 25 representatives of institutions organizations led by and serving African Americans, American Indians and Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, with equal represetation from each racial and ethinic group. Discuss ways to reorient health services toward health education, health promotion and disease prevention in a culturally competent manner, by opening new channels of communcation between health institutions and minorities. Establish an agenda for a working group session involving individuals identified in step one, in consultation with CMS project officer, and disseminate along with appropriate background information to multicultural consultants. Discuss the development of policies, programs and other activities regarding cultural diversity at CMS and other federal components. Review CMS and other federal agency policies, programs and other activities regarding cultural diversity, and provide and opportunity for discussion and the formulation of recommendations to improve and enhance cultural diversity at the federal level. Discuss concrete stategies and tools for culturally competent health care that can lead to better services, outcomes, and patient retention. And establish a multicultural advisory panel of individuals participating in the working group and willing to provide consultation to CMS and other federal agencies on an ongoing basis. All responsible sources may submit capbility statements for consideration to the Agency at the above address. If no responses are received withing 15 calendar days from the published date of this notice, a purchase order shall be awarded to Summit Health Institute for Research and Education, Inc.
