W-Lease of Deck Barge at Chicago, Illinois This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for lease of deck barges on a requirements basis. Deck barges must be a minimum size of 150 feet x 40 feet x 10 feet with deck arrangement to transport large stones for breakwater repairs with a total deck cargo capacity of at least 1000 tons. The deck barges furnished shall be in seaworthy condition ready to carry stone between Calumet Harbor and Burns Harbor with a minimum of 2 serviceable mooring lines each. The Contracting Officer's representative will jointly inspect the barges with the supplier's representative at the beginning and ending of the lease period to verify barges are in a seaworthy condition for the service and route specified above. From Contracting Officer's notice to proceed, contractor shall be given 5 days to deliver barge to the Corps of Engineers stone dock at the mouth of the Calumet River at Chicago, IL. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; quotes are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. It is anticipated that a minimum of 2 barges will be needed for this lease between 8/15/01 and 10/31/01 for a total of 4 barge-months. This is an unrestricted solicitation; all responsible sources may submit a written quotation with each barge size, availability and monthly lease rate. However, the supplier will provide the tug/towboat and crew to deliver the barge(s) to and remove the barge(s) from the above stone dock as part this rental agreement without further compensation. Written quotations for barges for lease are due by 4 P.M. Central Daylight Time on 8/08/01 and may be faxed to Deborah O'Donnell, CELRC-CT, Fax number 312-886-2891. Questions regarding this procurement must be submitted in writing via fax no later than 8/06/01. Selection and award will be made to the lowest priced quote until the Corps of Engineers requirement for barges is fulfilled. Partial payments are authorized. Rental period is for a minimum of 1 month and prorated for the remainder of the time between 8/15/01 and 10/31/01 for which the barge is leased. Contractor will be given 5 days advance notice at the end of the lease to remove the barge from the Corps of Engineers Stone Dock at the end of the lease period.
