Description

The USGS, Geologic Division, National Geologic Mapping Program, Lakewood, Colorado, has a requirement to develop a prototype interactive geologic map database as a part of the ongoing process to build a national geologic map database. This prototype database will use geologic map data for the Southern California Area Mapping Project and 1:100,000-scale geologic map from the Appalachian Regional Geology and Hydrology Project Task: Geology of the Washington-Baltimore Area (ARGH-WBA). The following guidelines are proposed for the prototype database. This database should: Implement enforcement of the latest modifications to the North American Data Model Steering committee (NADMSC) data model standard in a manner that incorporates and automatically enforces behavioral characteristics unique to the included geologic features during the geologic map database development and data conversion; the system must be ready to provide distributed Internet access, and must be scalable to support hundreds and/or thousands of simultaneous view and edit/updated users; the system must support existing USGS and state geological surveys technology resources consisting of multiple vendor client products used to edit and update spatial geologic data. Vendor must be familiar with Smallworld Systems, Inc and be able to work closely with the USGS. Period of performance will be approximately nine months.
