Description
The work includes the following and incidental related work. DEMOLITION The Radio Island Ramp, approximately 430 feet long by 30 feet wide, will be demolished in phases. Phase 1 will extend from the existing expansion joint eastward for 215 feet. The concrete slab and pile caps in the first 109 feet will be demolished, leaving the piles. The last 106 feet of ramp, pile caps and piles will be completely demolished. The western portion of the ramp will remain in service while the eastern portion is being demolished and reconstructed. After the eastern portion has been constructed and placed in service the Phase 2 demolition and construction will take place on the western portion of the ramp. This demolition will be similar to Phase 1. CONSTRUCTION The eastern construction will consist of installing a new steel sheet pile wall approximately 1 foot in front of the existing wall. The space in between the two sheets will be filled with concrete and ground anchors will be installed as a tie back system. Along the portion of the bulkhead wast of the new ramp a pile cap and curb wall will be constructed. The Phase 1 portion of the ramp will be approximately 109 feet long by 32 feet wide over the water and will extend approximately 15 feet inland. This ramp will consist of north/south and east/west cast-in-place pile caps, precast prestress slabs running east and west and cast-in-place reinforced concrete topping. A sloped slab on grade will extend from the ramp to the grade slabs. The east part of the ramp will have a 2 foot high wall with ramp curb lighting and a new light pole will be installed at the corner of the ramp. Two mono-pile dolphins will be constructed approximately 105 feet off shore of the ramp. The ramp will have a new fender elements and cleats. The new phase 2 western portion of the ramp will be similar to the Phase 1 eastern portion. Estimated cost range: Between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000.
