Description

The P Canal Lining project will provide an economical barrier against water loss from a canal that will be stable, resistant to damage from cattle, and durable given extreme weather conditions. Approximately 4,931 feet of the P Canal will be subgraded approximately 16 inches, and then smoothed to allow placement of a 20 mil Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) liner. The liner will then be covered with 8 inches of the excavated soil, and 8 inches of pit run gravel. The finished section will be shaped to a 10-foot bottom width and 3:1 side slopes. Also, an 8-inch thick blanket of rock riprap will be placed at the ends of each of the culverts. In addition, concrete slabs supplied by the Pondera County Canal and Reservoir Company will be placed at each of the culverts to extend the existing concrete and slab heaadwalls. The project will be performed at the Lower Birch Creek Watershed located approximately 1.5 miles east and 0.5 miles south of Conrad, Montana. The Invitation for Bids will be released on or about 8-01-01. A site visit is tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on 8-13-01.
