Description

The US Army, TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, anticipates soliciting under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, a sole source requirement with General Dynamics -- OTS, loated at 8820 Route 148, Marion, IL 62959-5878. This will be a firm fixed price requirement for the following: The current M919 aluminum sabot is manufactured by conventional CNC machining. In an effort to reduce the manufacturing cost, a process call precision metal forming was investigated. In this process, a pre-heated aluminum blank is compressed by high pressure forming dies in order to obtain the desired shape. In a previous task, tooling was developed and the process was experimented with an attempt to yield an acceptable product. The task yielded a sample of 24 sets of sabots (72 individual sabots). The Government seeks to extend this research by tasking the contractor to inspect the aforementioned test sample of sabots and use them to build full up cartridges for test firing. If any companies feel they can do this as a noncommercial or commercial requirement, submit information to the POC by the response date. See Numbered Notes 25 and 26.
