Description
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is soliciting requests for applications (RFA) for the National Summer Transportation Institute's (STI) Resource Center (RC). Responses are due by 1:00 PM (eastern time) on August 20, 2001. For further information on the STI Program Contact -- Hattie Brown, FHWA Office of Civil Rights at (202) 366-1591. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the National STI is to: 1) create awareness in middle and high school students to take maximum advantage of the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry, 2) attract a broad and diverse selection of bright minds, to acquaint and stimulate them with the various aspects of the transportation industry, and 3) increase the number of students who choose a career in the transportation industry. This will be accomplished by enabling selected Host Sites to implement/continue this successful program, and to expand this proven concept to other Host Sites. This requirement is to select a National STI Resource Center to continue the National STI, provide technical assistance, and to convene a forum for discussing all aspects of the National STI. The National STI RC will also establish and administer formal agreements with selected Host Sites, and encourage public and private support. PURPOSE: USDOT recognizes the need for individuals with technical competencies in the transportation field. The demand for individuals with engineering or technical backgrounds vastly exceeds the supply, and enrollment of students in these programs across the Nation remains far below the number needed by the industry. The purpose of the National STI is to create awareness and stimulate interest in diverse middle and high school students to take maximum advantage of the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry. REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS: This is a request for applications (RFA) of federal assistance. Interested parties are invited to comment on the National STI and the current statement of work; and submit their Application for Federal Assistance package to compete to be the National STI RC. The RFA and all related documents and amendments, if any, will only be released and available electronically through Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOpps) at http://www1.eps.gov/spg/DOT/FHWA/postdate_1.html which will list all the FHWA business opportunities sorted by posted date. The solicitation and related documents will be posted under the number DTFH61-01-X-00097. NO WRITTEN, TELEPHONIC, FACSIMILE, OR E-MAIL REQUESTS will be honored, however, interested parties can register at the aforementioned site to receive procurement announcements by e-mail. Since this RFA will only be available electronically, it is the responsibility of interested parties to monitor the FebBizOpps website for any amendments.
