- Description
- The National Institute on Aging, Gerontology Research Center intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the University of Miami, Department of Psychology, Dr. Frank J. Penedo, P. O. Box 248185, Coral Gables, FL 33124. They will provide data from among older adults living with HIV/AIDS on the role of personality factors in the efficacy of a group-based Cognitive-Behavioral Stress Management (CBSM) intervention. Sixty older men and women between the ages of 50 and 70 who are treated for HIV/AIDS at the University of Miami comprise this unique sample. All participants will be on highly active antiretroviral treatment (HAART), standard care for HIV+ patients. The contractor will develop the procedures and assessment battery for the CBSM and individual treatment interventions. The contractor will customize all CBSM techniques (in-session examples, role-plays, and homework exercises) and individual treatment interventions to reflect the unique challenges of older adults living with HIV/AIDS. The contractor will provide NIA, Laboratory of Personality & Cognition investigators detailed procedure manuals for both the CBSM intervention and the individual treatment intervention. The contractor will also obtain pre-treatment (T1) and post-treatment (T2) data.
