Description
United Defense L.P., as the prime contractor, is in the process of developing the US Army's next generation of field artillery and re-supply heavy tracked vehicles, Crusader. The Crusader system consists of the self-propelled howitzer (SPH), the re-supply vehicle (RSV), and the re-supply module (RSM), each incorporating multiple VME64X Backplanes usage instances. Three, Ten, and Thirteen slot backplanes are needed. The backplane must provide a common interconnect per VITA 1.1-1997 specification for all VME64X printed wiring assemblies, and must provide an interface for power to those assemblies. Furthermore, the VME64X Backplane must comply with the following key environmental requirements: -The backplane shall be capable of operating while in contact with a dielectric fluid (Fluorinert ) ranging in temperature from -40C to +65C, and after exposure to storage ambient air temperatures between -51C and +71C -The backplane shall be capable of performing as specified both during and after exposure to random vibration as specified by Method 514.5 of MIL-STD-810F Category 24 (Minimum Integrity Test) -The backplane shall be capable of performing as specified both during and after a 20 g 11 msec sine pulse applied in each of the three orthogonal axes, IAW MIL-STD-810F, Method 516.5, Figure 516.5-10 A COTS "off the shelf" Backplane solution is highly desirable.
