Description
NASA/MSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a M-850.50 Hexapod Micropositioning System with the following specifications: 6 axes micropositioning system with motor controller for AMSD optical testing at the XRCF. Justification: NASA requires a six-degree of freedom micropositioning system and controller to support an interferometer that shall be used to characterize the optical surface of several cryogenic mirrors. The optical test procedure calls for a low profile stage with 1micron linear motion resolution, and 1 arcsec angular motion resolution. The stage must be capable of producing motion while supporting 50 kg. Polytec PI's M-850 Hexapod is the only commercially available micropositioning system providing six degrees of freedom with 1 um resolution that allows the user to define the pivot point anywhere inside or outside the system's envelope. This micropositioning system shall provide the software and control electronics. The micropositioning system shall be capable of supporting and positioning the interferometer to the required accuracy in all arbitrary orientations. The controller shall communicate through a standard serial channel and have high-level command language to operate the hexapod. The cable between the hexapod and the controller shall not be shorter than 20 feet. Requirements: Item Qty P/N Description (1) 1 M-850.50 Hexapod 6-Axes Micropositioning system w/motor controller. See below for specifications. (2) 1 F-206.MC6 F-206 Six Axis Manual control pad Specifications The 6 degrees of freedom microposition system shall have the following specifications: Degree of motion: 6 axes Range of travel: x/y motion +/- 50 mm Z motion (vertical) +/- 25 mm qx +/- 15 deg. qy +/- 15 deg. qz +/- 30 deg. Resolution: x/y motion 1 micron Z motion 0.5 micron qx, qy, qz 5 micro radians Maximum speed: 5 mm/sec in x, y, z 50 mrad/sec in qx, qy, qz Stiffness: x/y plane 2 N/ micron Z axis 20 N/ micron Maximum load capacity: 200 kg in z-axis 50 kg random In additional to the above specifications, the mass of the micropositioning system shall weight less than 20 kg, and less than 350 mm in total height. The distance separating the micropositioning system from the control unit and remote unit shall be no less than 20 feet. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/MSFC intends to purchase the items from Polytec PI, Inc. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Include the following:] Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on July 28, 2001. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
