Description
U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, New District, intends to procure services for subsurface exploration for bulkhead design at MOTBY. The intent of this contract is to construct bulkheads along the south shore of the Marine Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey (MOTBY). The objective of the exploration is to determine the nature and aerial extent of soil and rock material that occurs along the proposed bulkhead alignment. Eight (8) borings will be located in the water and Four (4) will be located on land. Water depth should range from thirty-five feet (35') to forty-five feet (45'). A representative of the Structural F & M Section of the Corps of Engineers, New York District will be present to direct drilling operations and to inspect samples. Standard Penetration Test (SPT) methods and procedures (140# hammer, thirty inch drop, two inch split spoon) will be employed to collect intermittant (i.e. 5'-7', 10'-12', 15'-17' ) soil samples. Water borings will be advanced to an elevation of eighty-five feet below mean low water (-85' MLW) and land borings will be driven to a depth of fifty feet (50'). If bedrock is encountered above the anticipated total depth then the hole can be completed at a lesser depth as long as a five-foot core has been cut. Cores are anticipated at no more than four (4) locations. The number of blows required to drive the split spoon six inches will be recorded. Soil samples will be described using the Unified Soil Classification System and the Burmister method to quantify the major and minor components (gravel, sand, silt and clay). Eight (8) undisturbed (Shelby Tube) samples will be collected from silt and clay strata. The lump sum contract price shall include all labor, equipment and material necessary to accomplish the work. A firm-fixed price commercial item contract is considered for this acquisition.
