- Description
- The work of this contract consists of replicating and fabricating historic military architectural components in silicon bronze for the historic Hot Shot Furnace at Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida. The contract will include all steps of silicon bronze static casting from fabrication of positives, forms, and other casting components, through casting, finishing, application of patina, preparation for shipment, and shipment. There are 31 types of components with quantities for each component ranging from 1 to 68, totalling 269 pieces. The architectural components to be fabricated are parts of a historic shot furnace and range in shape, size, and design from flat bar, plate, threaded ends on building cross ties, retaining stars, rails, supports, firebox liners, and shutters. The original components are located at Dry Tortugas National Park, formerly called Fort Jefferson National Monument,which is on an island 70 miles west of Key West Florida. The site is remote and public access is limited. Site visits will be available, however, the plans and specifications will adequately describe the work to be performed. Delivery of the bronzed components will be to Trumbolt Harbor, Key West, Florida. Technical questions regarding this project may be directed to Paul Neidinger at (505) 988-6034.
