Description

Work involves construction of a two-story fire lookout tower with seasonal residence. It has an enclosed area of approximately 500 square feet plus exterior deck, catwalks and stair. The building will be steel and wood frame construction with reinforced concrete column footings and foundation slab. The structure will be anchor bolted to a rock surface and stone excavation is required. It will also include installation of a fire sprinkler, solar water heating, photvoltaic power (low voltage), lightning protection, gray-water disposal and propane utilities. The site is situated above 8,000 feet in elevation, in a remote area that is accessed via a 7 mile, four-wheel-drive trail. Construction is seasonal, generally from May through September. Contractor hardships/hazards include steep grades, lightning, high wind gusts, absence of water or power on site, and difficult access for large construction equipment. Price range is $100,000 to $250,000. A pre-bid walk through will be scheduled for August 20, 2001 at 9 a.m. It is highly recommended that bidders attend this walk thru.
