- Description
- Using Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13 simplified acquisition procedures, the Air Force Institute for Environment, Safety and Occupational Health Risk Analysis (AFIERA) at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas intends to award a follow-on contract to ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences, Inc. (EMBSI) on a sole source basis. The proposed follow-on contract will allow EMBSI to comparatively characterize the potential of additional hydrocarbon fuels to cause respiratory tract sensory irritation in mice during inhalation exposure and, thus, to bring to a logical conclusion the sensory irritation study ordered by an earlier government contract with EMBSI. ASTM Standard Test Method E-981-84, "Estimating Sensory Irritancy of Airborne Chemicals" will fundamentally guide the conclusion of this sensory irritation study. The Government intends to solicit only one source -- EMBSI -- for the aforementioned requirement under the authority of FAR 6.302 and 13.106-1(b). If no statements of interest and capability are received from interested and responsible parties within fifteen (15) days from the publication of this synopsis, the Contracting Officer will proceed with an award to EMBSI. The anticipated award date is 31 August 2001 and the period of performance is through 31 March 2002. See numbered Note 22.
