- Description
- The purpose of this modification is to add additional information to the Request for Information (RFI), all else remains the same. OFFADD: AFCA/TCPI, 203 W Losey St, Room 2000, Scott AFB IL 62225-5222 SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR INFORMATION POC: Mr Michael Vogel, 618-256-6212 DESC: This announcement constitutes a formal Request For Information (RFI) synopsis. Information obtained as a result of this synopsis is for planning purposes only. It does not constitute an invitation for sealed bid or Request For Proposal (RFP), nor is it to be construed as a commitment by the United States Air Force. The Air Force Communications Agency (AFCA), Product Integration Branch, is working with the Air Expeditionary Force Battlelab (AEFB) on an initiative to demonstrate the feasibility of using commercial off-the-shelf software/hardware to provide data compression prior to communications. Applications include typical desktop communications via E-mail/Internet using Windows 98, 2000 and NT platforms. Compression/compactions is to be performed on both data and images (typically Powerpoint) using Outlook for E-mail services. Workstation applications include medical, optical, mapping and weather image data used primarily on NT and Unix based platforms. The formats include still images, video and video streaming. Optimal solutions are easily integrated into standard Air Force systems, such as an Outlook plug-ins for standard desktop applications. AEFB/AFCA to evaluate products based upon compression level feasibility and Air Force operational utility. Evaluation heavily focused on input from Air Force users of information to be compressed. Responding vendors are requested to provide feedback within 30 days after the posting of this notice. Vendors may express interest, make comments and ask questions via electronic mail or fax comments or questions to the Air Force Communications Agency, Product Integration Branch, at AFCA-TCPI@scott.af.mil, FAX 618-256-8944. All comments and questions must be in writing and must identify the company source, contact person, and telephone number.
