- Since 1999, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Office of Insurance Programs, OPM/OIP, has provided a link from its Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) web site to a health insurance decision-making tool. This tool was available to employees, annuitants and their families to help with FEHB open season enrollment decisions. It has come to our attention that other web-based tools have now become available. Several vendors have asked for and been given the opportunity to demonstrate their products to OPM/OIP. Of those we have seen, while they approach the decision-making process in different ways, each could be helpful to a Federal employee/annuitant trying to select a health plan that best meets their needs. Consequently, OPM/OIP will not feature a link from its web site to a decision-making tool this open season (November 12 through December 10, 2001). Companies or individuals with a web-based decision tool may wish to contact Federal agencies about making their product available to employees or health plans about making such a tool available to Federal enrollees. The FEHB data needed to populate a decision tool is generally available on the OPM web site no later than November 1. We will work with qualified vendors to provide them the necessary data earlier if possible, or as soon as the information is available.
